Uncle Bud's Hut

Uncle Bud's Hut is part of the 10th Mountain Division hut system in Colorado and is located just outside of Leadville.  In the summer you can drive up a steep dirt road....in the winter it is a long walk in.  The term "hut" is used loosely, as it is really a house that sleeps up to 16 people.  We went up for a weekend with a great group of friends and had a really nice relaxing time.

The front yard....

Nice fire pit....
The "hut"....

The hut is located just up from the Leadville 100 which was going on that weekend; we headed down and watched the fast people come through at mile 93.  There was a nasty little climb there......

Some of the leaders coming through just before the climb.

Making the turn and onto the climb...

Tinker.....in his 50's now I believe and coming through mile 93 in the top 10.

Pictures don't do the climb justice....it is steep and has to hurt at mile 93.

Relaxing on the front deck.

Went for a short hike behind the hut.

 Sarah and Eric playing Frisbee....

Wood burning stove....
